LINDER STERLING - BRANDING WORKSHOP

this branding workshop consisted of research into various creatives that are from or have a connection to manchester. as a group we were given the artist linder sterling, who is a graphic/collage artist, and expresses her political views through her work. through her post-punk stage of her life she was able to communicate her radical feminist highlighting cultural expectations of women, and the exploitation of the female body. as i found out through viewing her work, and how she uses the nude female body repeatedly. her photo montages mostly combine images found in pornographic, fashion and interior design magazines. the moodboard above includes various pictures of her work, and the top left is an actual photo of her when she was younger. 

as we were given the task to create a brand form the local artist we were given, and we did further research into her interests and her artwork. we realised that her work she created was quite dark, but made a bold statement with her views and opinions. after thorough decisions with my group, we decided we would make a pop-up shop which included all her clothing, and also singles from her punk stages she made when she was younger. her clothing would be quite strange, and unique resembling her artwork.

 

we would keep the location of the pop-up shop quite local in manchester, but have the boutique in an unusual place, as we found that sterling likes to shock and surprise her audience. so we thought maybe we would place the  pop-up shop in an unexpected place like exchange square or spiningfields some where quite posh. the pop-up shop would be within shipping containers creating that dark and grungy effect. furthermore, when she was creating music, she performed with a meat dress on, which shocked her audience effectively, so we would have that dress exhibited within the pop-up. 

THE MOODBOARD ABOVE IS THE TYPE OF STYLE AND FEEL THE BRAND, AND POP-UP STORE WOULD KIND OF HAVE TO IT. VERY GRUNGY, DARK AND RAW REFLECTING LINDER STERLING'S VIEWS AND IDEAS WITH HER MUSIC, ARTWORK AND POLITICAL/SOCIAL VIEWS. PLUS, A MOODBOARD OF HOW THE POP-UP STORE WOULD LOOK, AND THE LOCATION IT WILL BE AT. THE PRODUCTS BELOW ARE A FEW DESIGNS WE AS A GROUP CREATED, WHICH WOULD BE PART OF HER MERCH WITHIN THE POP-UP STORE.
